Relays and individuals shine at TAPPS State
Track & Field Championships

Henderson sets new 5A record in 200M     May 5, 2008

track_050508The Parish Track & Field Team had nine athletes qualify for the TAPPS State Track & Field Championships Saturday, May 3, 2008, in Waco.

During the meet, Alex Henderson set the State 5A record in the 200 M Dash (21.88). Alex closed out his high school track career by winning the State Championship in the event and, for good measure, shattered the previously held record.  In an event that records are often broken by hundredths of a second, Alex outpaced the 11-year-old record by an astonishing quarter second.

Parish teamwork was evident in the four relay teams (two girls and two boys) that competed. The boys’ 4 X 200 M Relay comprised of Alex Henderson, Trey Morse, Cecilio Carter and Andre Brackens came away with a Bronze, and the Boys 4 X 400 M Relay of Alex Henderson, Conrad Smith, Cecilio Carter and Andre Brackens place sixth.  The girls’ 4 X 400 M Relay and girls’ 4 X 200 M Relay both comprised of Susan Barry, Abigail Garcia, Kelsey Kehlbeck and Chesnie Brackens placed sixth and seventh, respectively.

Rounding out the day of Parish highlights, was Susan Barry’s third place finish in the 100 M Dash (12.92; the second year in a row that she has medaled in this event at the State Championships), and Chesnie Brackens’ fifth place finish in the 200 M Dash.
