Girls’ Swimming & Diving Team TAPPS Division II State Champs in First Year as School Sport February 5, 2007 Toledo sets two state records; Stevenson wins one-meter diving championship
The Parish Panther girls’ swimming and diving team won the TAPPS Division II state championship on Feb. 3, at The University of Texas in Austin. After starting as a club sport last year, the team in its inaugural year as an official school sport finished in first place with 94 points, ahead of second place Northland Christian School (78) and third place Prestonwood Christian Academy (59).
Freshman Marylyn “The Torpedo” Toledo led the Panthers by posting two individual first place finishes and setting two Division II state records in the 100 Butterfly (57.59) and the 100 Breastroke (1:08.68). The Texas Independent Swim Coaches Association commended Toledo as one of the swimmers from the TAPPS North Regional Meet to accomplish noteworthy achievement from her times and first place wins in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Breastroke.
Other notable accomplishments from the meet: • Sophomore Kristen Stevenson took home the state championship in the One-Meter Diving competition, and teammate sophomore Chelsea Jones finished second. • The 200 Freestyle Relay team of junior Callie Cutler, junior Grace Kelsoe, junior Hayley Hatfield and Toledo won first place. • The 400 Freestyle Relay of Jones, Cutler, Toledo and Hatfield placed second. • The 200 Freestyle Relay of freshman Sallie Weir, Jones, Kelsoe and Stevenson placed second. • Hatfield placed third in the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle events. • Cutler placed seventh in the 100 Backstroke.
Girls’ Swimming and Diving TAPPS 5A Division II North Regional Champs January 22, 2007 Seventeen members of Parish’s first varsity swimming and diving team competed among 136 swimmers from 16 schools at the TAPPS 5A Division II North Regional Swimming and Diving Meet on Jan. 20 at the Frisco Natatorium. The girls’ team scored 126 points, 23 points ahead of the second place team from Prestonwood Christian Academy, to win first place honors.
The Panthers will head down to Austin on Feb. 2 and 3 for the TAPPS State Swimming and Diving Meet. The preliminary swim events begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, and the finals will start at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3. The girls head out to state with a strong chance of dominating the meet, as the team did in the regional meet. Both the divers and the boys’ team should also be strong competitors.

NEWS DPL Fall Meet Results Parish's Middle School Swimming Panthers "set the bar" at the Fall DPL Swim Meet. In an upset over St. Monica, the 5th/6th girls’ team took First Place Honors with sixth grader Maddie Maillard achieving High Point Girl in her division.
The 7th/8th boys made a very strong showing, sharing First Place with St. Monica. Jake Gibbons, 8th grade, was awarded High Point Boy in his division.
Swimming 2006-07 Season The Swimming Panthers will begin their third season under the guidance of Coach Lia Oberstar this fall. In early 2006, the previous club sport was changed to a varsity school sport and the Upper School swimmers competed in both the regional and state TAPPS meets, earning letter jackets in the process.

SWIM SEASON DATES: October 10, 2006 thru February 15, 2007. Morning workouts are Tuesdays and Thursdays before school at the Greenhill pool. There will also be swim practices offered during holidays, but they are optional.
UPPER SCHOOL: Grades 9-12 The swim workouts are from 6:00-7:30 am Tuesday and Thursday at the Greenhill School pool. Each swimmer will be required to attend 2 swim workouts a week and is encouraged to attend one weight room workout per week. Carpools will be organized by the swimmers/parents - see carpool and practice information. There will also be some clinics offered to work on strokes and racing. Attendance at these clinics is strongly encouraged.
Additionally, there will be 4-5 meets during the season as well as the TAPPS Regional Meet and TAPPS State Meet. Participation at these meets is required.
MIDDLE SCHOOL: Grades 5-8 The swim workouts are from 6:30-7:30 am Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each swimmer will be required to attend 2 workouts a week. Carpools will be formed by the parents. There are two major DPL meets.
NEW for 2006-07: The Diving Panthers For the 2006-2007 school year, springboard diving will be offered to those in upper school who are interested. Gymnastics background is helpful; no diving experience is necessary. Divers will compete at the TAPPS regional/state meets. Practice times are to be determined.
