Panther Powerlifting, 2006-2007

Powerlifting Club Update 5.23.07 The powerlifting club has had a fantastic year that included a few very large public school meets as well as a head to head meet with John Paul II in which Parish dominated every single major lift and walked away with the over all Night of Champions trophy. The John Paul team performed very well and were terrific hosts of the first annual event. The Panther Powerlifting Team will continue to compete throughout the summer.
The Top 10 Board has been updated and the Panthers are getting VERY VERY STRONG. Unlike 99% of other high schools in the country who count their total number as a combination of Bench/Squat/Dead Lift we count Bench/Squat/CLEAN which makes it much harder to reach 1000 pounds. We feel the clean is a much more athletic lift and much more applicable to the sports we play here at Parish. As evidence of the incredible progress these boys have made in the past year, one year ago the strongest Panther on the board was 810 pounds and now the 10th spot is 800 pounds. If we used the Bench/Squat/Dead Lift equation all 10 would be over 1000. These boys have dedicated themselves to a very worthy cause and we are extremely proud of their efforts and can't wait to see who shines on the next testing date.

Wakeland Powerlifting Meet 2/17/07 The Powerlifting Team competed at Wakeland High School in Frisco and did a fantastic job. Parish was the only private school in a field make up of mostly 5A & 6A public schools. There were a total of 18 schools at the meet and close to 300 lifters. Many of our boys finished in the Top 10 of their weight class with Trey Morse taking 5th highlighted by a personal best dead lift of 450. That personal best was matched by fellow sophomore Ryan Simons who also dead lifted 450 and took 6th in his weight class. David Haines took 10th in his weight class and had a very solid day. Brandon January was the youngster of the group, only in 8th grade and was able to hang with the majority of the juniors and seniors in his weight class. It was a GREAT day for Parish Powerlifting and just another Proud day to be a Panther!!!!
The Colony Powerlifting Meet 2/24/07 Once again Parish was proudly the only Private school in a field of 15 large public schools and once again our boys did not disappoint! The Colony meet was the first time many of our powerlifters were able to see live action and ALL of our boys did a great job. Luis Rios successfully benched 260 even with the stringent competition rules which represents an incredible 25 pound increase over his personal best of 235. But, the highlight of the meet was John Beasley giving an incredibly inspiring performance on the bench press that brought many competitors and fans to their feet and a dead lift of 400 pounds in his 165 pound weight class, John had a GREAT day. This was a tremendous event all around and countless people came up to compliment the Parish coaches on our athletes effort and their sportsmanship. The presence of the Parish lifters was felt by all in attendance.
Powerlifting Info, Spring 2007 Panther Powerlifting is a club sport that is offered to all Parish students grades 9-12. Eighth graders are allowed to be team members but do not compete in official meets. 2006-2007 is the first season for Powerlifting at Parish Episcopal. The team will compete in four meets this year and almost twice that many next season. The team trains Monday through Thursday, 4:00-5:00pm, in our new state of the art 3500 square foot weight room. The improvements this season have been UNBELIEVABLE!! The team competes in individual event and combined event competitions that are divided by weight class. There are three events in every competition, and those are the Bench, Squat and Deadlift. For training purposes our lifters compete with each other in the Bench, Squat and Power Clean.
Recently the team tested and were ranked by the three-event total. Here are the results of our Top 10 based on that testing:
