Parish caps milestone season Mar 3, 2008 The Lady Panthers reached their first TAPPS state girls basketball tournament to highlight Parish’s most successful season. Parish lost to Tomball Concordia during the semifinals in San Antonio on Feb. 29.
In addition to winning the District 2-5A title, Parish was ranked in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ state poll and the North Texas poll of The Dallas Morning News.
Senior Lucy Keith was named the district’s Most Valuable Player, sophomore Whitney Keith was the Defensive Player of the Year and Chesnie Brackens the Freshman of the Year. Parish’s Jason Samuels was the Coach of the Year.
Selected second-team all-district was Brooke Thoele. Honorable mention selections were Amanda Daum, Marielle LeMasters, Blaire Butler and Camie Robertson.
Girls basketball advances to TAPPS regional Feb 15, 2008 The Lady Panthers play Fort Worth Christian at 5:30 p.m. Friday at John Paul II in the TAPPS Class 5A state regional championship. Parish senior Lucy Keith scored 21 points in a bi-district playoff win over Arlington Grace Prep, 53-34, at Panther Gym last Friday. Whitney Keith added 12 points and Chesnie Brackens scored 10 points as well.
Parish’s stifling defense held Grace Prep to 10 points or less in every quarter. The Lady Panthers have won their last seven games and 13 of their last 14.
District champs start playoffs at home Feb 14, 2008 The Lady Panthers host a TAPPS state playoff game against Arlington Grace Prep at 7 p.m. Friday at Panther Gym. Parish (21-7) is coming off its second-consecutive District 2-5A championship. The Panthers are ranked No. 14 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches statewide Large Private School poll. If Parish advances past Grace Prep, it will play the Fort Worth Christian-Tyler Grace winner on Feb. 22 at John Paul II.
