Texas A&M Hall of Fame QB and Arena Football League Center Join Parish Coaching Staff April 4, 2007 The Parish football program has added two high profile coaches to its coaching staff. Texas A&M Hall of Fame quarterback Kevin Murray and Dallas Desperado starting center Jeff Chase will join the Parish Panther program to coach the quarterbacks and the offensive line, respectively.
While at A&M, Murray set a Cotton Bowl record in the 1986 bowl game against Auburn in which he threw for 292 yards in the Aggies’ 36-16 win. The Cotton Bowl win gave legendary A&M coach Jackie Sherrill his first Southwest Conference championship. Murray still holds the A&M record for most passing career touchdowns with 48 and is a member of the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame and the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.
“Kevin is a legend in the state of Texas, and he is a very meticulous task master when it comes to coaching and teaching,” said Scott Nady, Head Football Coach. “Kevin will take all of our QB's from 5th though 12th grade to a completely new level, as well as helping us with our passing game."
Chase is currently the starting center for the Dallas Desperados. At 6-4, 303 lbs, Chase’s physical presence anchors the offensive line. This fall, he will bring his four years of Arena League offensive line experience to Parish.
"Jeff Chase is a current professional athlete, which gives him tremendous credibility with the boys,” Nady said. “But more importantly, he is a tremendous coach who is passionate about offensive line play. Jeff also has an intense nature as a player, which is a vital quality of any good offensive lineman. We are extremely fortunate and blessed to have both Kevin and Jeff join our staff."
