Panther Varsity Girls’ Basketball Earns School’s First Varsity and 20-Win Season
The Parish girls’ varsity basketball team completed its most successful season thus far. Finishing 20–9, the Panthers earned the school’s first varsity winning record. During the season, the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches had the team ranked as high as #16 in state in the small private school division.

The 20-win mark is a huge accomplishment for a team with no seniors. The nine losses are also impressive. Only one of the teams that defeated the Panthers did not make post season play. Key wins this season against Arlington Oakridge (SPC), TCA (6A TAPPS) and W.T. White (5A UIL) helped avenge a few of last year’s loses. Beating future district opponent Plano Prestonwood, the Panthers finished 5th in the Melissa Lady Cardinal Classic earlier in the season. The highlight this season was the team’s runner-up performance in the school’s first Christmas holiday basketball tournament. Beating St. Andrews (SPC) and Covington (UIL), the team came up short in the finals against the #1 nationally ranked home school team, THESA (33-6). The Panthers finished the season ranked 17th in the state in team offense, as they scored 1,085 points and averaged 45.2 points per game. They also finished the season ranked 8th in team defense, as they gave up only 916 points, an average of 40.8 points per game.

Junior forwards Meaghan Delong and sophomore guard Lucy Keith led the Panthers with 14.8 points per game, 7.2 rebounds per game and 2.2 assists per game; and 11.1ppg, 8.1rpg and 5.3apg respectively. The duo and their teammates have done very well on the varsity level competing against more established senior led opponents.
