Fifth Graders Cap Undefeated Season with
DPL Baseball Title June 1, 2007

Luke Gibbons pitched a complete game and struck out 11 as Parish defeated St. Rita, 6-1, to capture the Dallas Parochial League’s fifth grade baseball championship at Little Heroes Field in Dallas.

Parish jumped on St. Rita pitching early. Travis Stymiest smashed a ball off the left field fence, and Ford Noble ripped a single into the right field corner to help the Panthers open with three runs in the bottom of the first. After St. Rita narrowed the margin to 3-1 in the fourth, Corbin Campitelli added an RBI single—his second screaming liner of the game—to rebuild the lead and keep momentum with the Panthers.

Gibbons carved up hitters with lots of strikes, and his teammates played great defense behind him—tracking fly balls in the outfield and gobbling up grounders around the diamond. The Panthers held a St. Rita team that entered the championship averaging ten runs per game to only a single run. The Parish fifth- graders finished their season with an overall record of 15-0.

Sixth Grade DPL Runner-Up
The Parish sixth-grade baseball team also deserves a pat on the back. The boys captured the runners-up trophy in the DPL championship game. The Panthers fell, 5-3, to a strong St. Monica-White team to wrap up their season.

With seventh grader Elise Roth on first base, seventh grader Abby Winslow bunted the ball in the top of the ninth, and a Saint Patrick error on the play scored Roth and the winning run.

Other impressive performances of the evening included eighth grader Samantha Springer who had 13 strikeouts, and eighth grader Marielle LeMasters who was 3-4 at the plate with a RBI.

The girls will play Dallas Lutheran before heading into the Parish Holiday Classic, Dec. 28-30, in which the team will tip off its tournament play at 5 p.m., Dec. 28, against Highland Park.

The team’s record stands at 6-5 after key wins against ESD and Hockaday. In the ESD contest, Parish led the entire way to win 60-34. Parish had eight players score, as the team recorded its season high in total points, and the team’s defense only allowed one ESD player to get into double figures with 10 points. Parish’s 37-32 win over the Hockaday Daisies marked the girls’ basketball program’s first victory against Hockaday. Throughout the game, the Parish defense confused Hockaday by allowing only 10 made baskets in the game, 20 points below the Daisies’ scoring average.

Girls’ Basketball Wins Season Opener Oct 31, 2006

The Parish girls’ basketball team started its first full season of TAPPS 5A District II play on Oct. 31 with a 51-47 victory over Fort Worth Nolan.

The Panthers are coming off a 22-8 record last season, which was the team’s most successful season in its short three year history after winning only two games its first year and 12 the following. Key wins against McKinney Christian, Trinity Christian Academy, Greenhill and Plano Prestonwood earned Parish a No. 16 ranking in the small school division of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ rankings last season. The team looks to duplicate and improve on the mark this season in the large school division.

The Panthers will have five returning starters and six other players that received quality playing time last season. Senior guard Meaghan DeLong will be Parish’s first 1,000 point scorer, needing only 10 points to reach the mark.  An outstanding achievement in itself, as she only played 10 games her freshman year. Last season alone, DeLong scored an average of 14.4 points per game - a career high of 46 points against Greenhill, six games with over 30pts and more than 15 games with 20+ pts – along with an average of 6 rebounds a game, 2 assists, 1.2 blocks and 2.3 steals.

DeLong is not Parish’s only threat in the backcourt though. Junior point guard Lucy Keith is the most athletic and versatile player on the Panther roster. She averaged 12ppg, 5 assists per game and 7rpg last season. Potentially, she has the ability to be a quadruple-double player. She registered Parish’s first triple-double against Oakridge with 12pts, 11reb and 10stls last season.  She almost followed the feat two nights later against W.T. White with 18pts, 10reb and 8 assists.

The backcourt duo has a very capable supporting cast with juniors Krissy Daniel, Camie Robertson and Brooke Thoele rounding out the returning starters. Daniel moved from the point position to the two-guard spot and ended the last six games of the 2005-2006 season averaging 12ppg and 3apg. Robertson, a post player, holds the school record for block shots with the 42 that she recorded last season.

Off the bench, senior guard Leslie Briggs is the team’s defensive stopper. At 4.5spg, her hounding ball pressure disrupts most teams’ offensive rhythm.

Cross Country Ends Season With Three Top 20 Finishes at State  Oct 23, 2006
The Varsity Cross County Team was represented by All-District runners Conrad Smith, Cozette Kale, Kelsey McDonnough and Alex Kaiser.

In the girls’ division, Cozette Kale and Kelsey McDonnough finished at an impressive 18th and 20th respectively. In the boys division, Alex Kaiser finished 7th overall and was awarded the All-State recognition.

It’s been a tremendous year for the team as well as a building year. All our state team as well as our girls’ 2nd place & boys’ district 3rd place finishing team members are underclassmen.

The Keith sisters combined for 33 hits. Whitney had six kills and one block, and Lucy had three kills and two blocks. Alex Storey added 12 hits and five kills. Ashleigh Ware and Krissy Daniel helped the team to victory through their all around hustle on the court.

“One thing that we have been working on that was evident in the game is that we are more spirited on the court and the bench,” Neuhoff said.  “The four seniors captains - Courtney Miller, Cassidy Schaffner, Ashleigh Ware and Lizze Weeks - are really motivating the team.”

The Panther volleyball team will play its next game against the Lutheran Lions at home on Thursday at 6pm.
