Among the 32 teams for each 16-team bracket are some of North Texas’ top public and private school programs. The girls’ bracket includes Longview, Ursuline, Haltom, Garland, Prince of Peace and Greenhill. The boys’ bracket includes The Woodlands Christian Boys – two-time defending Class 3A TAPPS state champions, Louisiana state finalist St. Mary’s Dominican, Rockwall Christian, Grapevine Faith, Carrollton Christian and John Paul II. First-game tip-off is 8 a.m. Dec. 28 with games running in the Parish Gym and Lutheran High School all day Dec. 29 as well. The Panther girls open against Prince of Peace at 6 p.m. Monday at Panther Gym with the boys’ first-round game following at 7:30 p.m. against Rockwall Christian. Humphrey gets national attention Nov 2009 Parish senior defensive lineman Eric Humphrey not only helped the Panthers reach their first TAPPS state semifinal in football, but he’s become one of the nation’s hottest college recruits. He’s been featured locally in Preston Hollow People newspaper and on the recruiting website rivals.com. Panthers celebrate milestone season Nov 30, 2009 Parish Episcopal reached its first TAPPS state football semifinal in its fourth varsity season. Parish's blossoming program earned its third-consecutive playoff berth and advanced to the Division II semifinals before losing to Prestonwood Christian.A strong running offense led by senior Wes Salley and freshmen Zach Shelley and Tre Vance propelled the Panthers to a 9-4 record on the season. Salley missed most of the final game with an injury but Shelley and Vance showed a promising future by combining for 285 yards rushing in a 28-24 loss to PCA last Saturday at the Birdville Fine Arts/Athletic Complex. Parish also got strong showing from senior quarterback Will Romo, senior receiver Hudson Wilson and senior lineman Ty McDonnough. Parish's defense was led by seniors Rob Bickel, Dillon Hoelscher, Kevin Williamson, Reed Standly and Keagan Riley throughout the season. The Panthers also got spirited performances by senior lineman Eric Humphrey and junior linebacker Rob Hankins who both played through limiting injuries in the loss to PCA. Parish loses 11 seniors who keyed a season with victories over public schools Hillcrest and Kemp with a second-place finish in TAPPS District 2. Parish had playoff wins over Arlington Grace Prep and Victoria St. Joseph's. Panthers to state semifinals Nov 23, 2009 Parish junior Luke Sparks kicked a 25-yard field goal with two seconds left to give the Panthers a 17-15 victory over Victoria St. Joseph’s at Austin’s Monroe Stadium, and the Panthers (9-3) are headed to the TAPPS Division II state semifinals against Prestonwood Christian (7-4) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Birdville Athletic Complex. To reach the Panthers’ first state semifinal in football, Parish put together a 60-yard drive in the final four minutes which was kept alive by a pass interference call on a fourth-and-15. Parish freshman Zach Shelley keyed the drive with 40 yards rushing along with an 18-yard screen pass to Hudson Wilson from quarterback Will Romo. St. Joseph’s (10-2) took a 15-14 lead with 4:32 left on a 30-yard field goal by Kevin Daniels. Parish held a 14-12 lead after trading touchdowns but St. Joseph’s missed an extra point kick and failed on a pass attempt to tie. Parish took a 14-6 lead early in the second half. Parish running back Tre Vance broke free on a 73-yard run on the first play of the third quarter and Vance scored on a 2-yard run. On Oct. 30, Parish clinched its third consecutive playoff berth by holding on to a 27-24 against Prestonwood Christian. Shelley set a school record with 323 yards rushing to give Parish second place in District 2. The Parish-PCA winner will meet the Argyle Liberty Christian-Dallas Christian winner for the state title 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 5 at Killeen's Buckley Stadium. • more football news Parish takes second at state Nov 9, 2009 Parish Episcopal took second-place at the TAPPS Class 4A State Volleyball Tournament in San Antonio. Parish lost to Tomball Lutheran in the state final.Parish was the 2008 defending state champion and advanced to the championship with a semifinal victory over Victoria St. Joseph. Parish has reached the TAPPS state volleyball tournament the past three years. Parish seniors Kristi Blunk, Kelly Daniel, Whitney Keith and Alex Storey have helped the four-year varsity program win three consecutive district champions. The Panthers return a strong class of juniors Toi Collins, Holly Hopkins, Haley McCrary, Taylor Mosley, Amshatar Stephenson and Abbey Rogge. More Athletics News...
